Litter Movement
We ask for your cooperation with the following:
There are no restrictions on the movement of breeder or pullet litter.
For Litter from Broiler Farms from the following counties:
Banks, Hall, Barrow, Walton, Morgan, Greene, Wilkes, Oglethorpe, Elbert, Madison, Hart, Franklin, Jackson, Clarke, Oconee
TO TAKE IT AND SPREAD IT WITHIN THE 15 county AREA:
No treatment needed
TO TAKE IT OUT OF THE 15 county AREA:
Heat treat litter in the house (100F, 100h), or windrow it inside the house for a minimum of 5 days, or move it only once it has spend a minimum of 5 days in the stack house.

GPLN is pleased to announce the following staff promotions:
Administration: Brian Davenport to Facilities Manager, Danelle Dimizio to Administrative Assistant II, Tiara Brawner to Accounting Specialist, and Caren Smith to Project Coordinator.
NPIP Department: Steve Brinson to Field Manager II and Mark Strickland to Field Technician II.
Bacteriology: Kevin Smith to Bacteriology Supervisor.
Dr. Doug Waltman has been appointed NPIP Salmonella Liaison

GPLN is pleased to announce that Dr. Doug Waltman has been appointed NPIP Salmonella Liaison. He will work closely with the NPIP office in Conyers, GA on Salmonella protocols, laboratory audits and Salmonella workshops. He will serve as bacteriology advisor at GPLN. In this role he will compare and develop molecular techniques for Salmonella detection and will analyze historical data.

GPLN Begins Wellness Program. GPLN kicked off its Wellness Program in May with individual wellness evaluations and a presentation on exercising to turn back the clock. GPLN began a walking group which walks the perimeter of the lab 2-3 times a day. We are tracking all miles walked or exercised with the goal to walk 250 miles by the end of May. Participation in the program has been very good and awareness of wellness has been significantly elevated. By the end of May GPLN walked 283 miles. Watch for updates on our progress!
Dufour-Zavala named director of Poultry Laboratory Network

Louise Dufour-Zavala has been named executive director of the Georgia Poultry Laboratory Network at Oakwood. Dufour-Zavala, who has been interim director since May 1, came to the Lab in 1997 as chief veterinarian and head of the clinical services department. She replaces James Scroggs, who served as director since
1996. "Dr. Dufour-Zavala is an internationally respected veterinarian who has an impressive track record in working with the Georgia poultry industry," said
Don Mabe, chairman of the Georgia Poultry Improvement Association A native of Montreal, Dufour-Zavala holds a bachelor's degree in animal science from McGill
University in Montreal, a doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Montreal, and a masters of avian medicine from the University of Georgia. She is a diplomate with the American College of Poultry Veterinarians.
The Georgia Poultry Laboratory Network includes the main lab at Oakwood and branch labs at Bowdon, Camilla, Carnesville, Dalton, Douglas, Forsyth,
Glennville.
